One person in custody, another hospitalized after stabbing in Kingsport

UPDATE 12a.m.: Kingsport Police have identified the suspect arrested in a stabbing investigation.

According to police, 54-year-old Jeffrey A. Johnson was arrested and charged with Criminal Attempt to Commit Second Degree Murder and Interference with Emergency Calls to 9-1-1.

In an updated news release, Kingsport Police said Johnson stabbed a person in the neck with a knife during an altercation at the Fox Haven Apartments on Sullivan Gardens Parkway.

That person, who has only been identified by police so far as a 65-year-old man, was rushed to the hospital by EMS to an area medical facility where he underwent surgery.

According to police, he has since been admitted to the hospital and is listed in serious but stable condition.

After the altercation police also reported that an acquaintance attempted to call 911 sever times, but each time Johnson took the phone away and ordered them not to call authorities.

Johnson is being held in the Kingsport City Jail on a $50,000 bond.


KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL)- Officials with the Kingsport Police said one person is in custody following a reported stabbing Saturday evening at Fox Haven Apartments.

According to Tom Patton with the Kingsport Police department officers and first responders were called to 2800 Sullivan Gardens Parkway around 5p.m. for a reported disturbance.

Patton said that disturbance turned into a stabbing.

Saturday night police said one person was in custody with charges pending and a victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

At last check Patton said that victim was in surgery.

No further information was available Saturday evening, but Kingsport police did say this is an ongoing investigation.
