Kingsport, TN – One of the most sought after high school football coaching jobs in the state will enter round two on Friday.
News Channel 11 sports has learned Dobyns-Bennett has called back three candidates for a 2nd interview.
One of the names we are hearing is Union football coach Travis Turner. Turner played for his father, the late Tom Turner, at Appalachia high school, where they won three VHSL group a, division 1 state titles. This past season he guided Union to the 2a state semi-finals.
The other name is Jamie Harless from Lord Botetourt, the former Emory and Henry 2-time all american defensive tackle.
Under Harless the Cavs have made several regional trips and went to the state title game in his 4th season.
The final name we’re hearing is former ETSU star quarterback Greg Ryan who’s now the coach at Greenback in Knoxville.
After two seasons of compiling a 26-4 record, including back-to-back 1-a state championship appearances, Ryan and the Cherokees won the state title this past season.
